How we work→

Founder’s Story

Her Story Matters was founded in 2011 by Harriet Khataba, who recognised a deep need for a platform where women could share stories as a tool to inspire, empower, heal and form a sisterhood and support system, similar to what she saw with her mother and group of friends growing up. Harriet experienced rape and went into depression, and struggled with suicidal ideation to the point of nearly ending her life. She couldn’t articulate her experiences because she didn’t understand what was happening to her. Harriet spent over a year researching issues affecting women, and the statistics were alarming. She realised there was a need for more than sharing stories. She wanted to raise awareness and support women beyond stories.

Her-Story

Founded In 2011, in the wake and rapid rise of Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networking apps. People were more stressed, comparing their lives to others on social media and allowing work to overtake more and more of the work-life balance; Her Story  Matters on the other hand was empowering women and giving them a platform to be heard. Since then, Her Story Matters has partnered and collaborated with the UK Govt, AMREF,  Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Forward UK, UN, and Financial Institutions to help women protect women’s rights , access funding for their businesses, Step into leadership roles and shared thousands of stories through events and Her Story Magazine,  featuring real women stories and encourages body positivity with women from various ages and backgrounds gracing the front cover.  We aim to continue impacting globally through our platforms, digital magazine, video content, publications and documentaries. We are building a global community and the go-to place for female empowerment.
